Controlled Chaos

Study for a larger piece and practice with Pilot Pens and India Ink. The line work with pen makes a blue wash while India Ink makes a warmer tone which is fun. The stairs were originally a doodle I sketched once and they’ve begun to take on the role of an inner scaffold, cell, construction thing shabbily built into a piece. I’ve been playing around with mixing them into different settings and this one I wanted an architectural element mixed with more expressive and wispy line/brushwork. I think the paper is some scrap Arches or Stonehenge leftover from a friend of mine’s printmaking. Battling the absorbency of different papers has been fun, one day I will find a happy saturation point for different washes to move around.
